What is Vision Therapy?
Vision therapy is a customized program designed to improve visual function. It helps retrain the eyes and brain to work more efficiently together for better focus, coordination, and tracking.
The main goal of vision therapy is to make sure both eyes track objects equally and correctly, at all distances. Vision therapy is also used to help prevent or delay the need for some types of eye surgery. This may involve special eyewear and/or special in-office eye therapy sessions.
ADHD
Eye-tracking problems in a child may be misinterpreted as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. If a child’s eyes are not tracking the words on a page correctly, the child cannot participate in many class activities and may become easily bored or distracted. Normal eye vision exams rarely detect eye-tracking problems. An eye doctor with orthoptic training can diagnose and treat childhood eye-tracking problems.Types of Vision Therapy
Some types of vision therapy may be done with non-standard prescription glasses or contact lenses. The strength of these lenses may need to be changed over time, depending upon how your condition improves.
Our optometry center also uses vision correction devices like:
- Corrective lenses (standard prescriptions)
- Therapeutic lenses, often very different from normal glasses
- Prism lenses
- Optical filters
- Eye patches
- Brock strings
- Vectograms, tranaglyphs, and stereo objects
- Electronic targets with mechanical timing mechanisms
- Visual-motor-sensory integration devices to help eye, hand, and body coordination

What Are the Symptoms?
If your eyes feel dry, itchy, or like they’re burning, you may have dry eyes. Some people also experience blurred vision or feel like something is stuck in their eye. Strangely enough, dry eye can cause excessive tearing as the eyes overcompensate for the lack of moisture.
What Dry Eye Treatments Are Available?
The good news is that several treatments can ease dry eyes. For more persistent symptoms, optometrists can recommend prescription eye drops that increase tear production. Another option is punctal plugs, tiny devices placed in the tear ducts to slow down tear drainage. Some patients may benefit from lifestyle changes, such as taking screen breaks or using a humidifier. We may also recommend radiofrequency treatment to help you get relief. Are There Long-Term Solutions?
Yes. For chronic dry eye, we may suggest treatments like LipiFlow, a procedure that unclogs the oil glands in your eyelids. Dietary changes—like adding more omega-3s—can also improve tear quality over time. With the right care, many patients see significant improvement and fewer flare-ups.

If your symptoms don’t go away with basic eye drops or you experience frequent discomfort, it’s time to visit an eye doctor. Left untreated, dry eyes can lead to infections or damage to the surface of your eye. The sooner you get treated, the better your eyes will feel. Our Reviews
